Application of 3D laser projectors in ship pattern painting

Our company launched a 3D laser projection technology in June 2019. This technology can be applied to scenarios where it is difficult to use traditional methods for paint positioning tasks, such as curved outer plates and complex patterns.

In June 2019, our company collaborated with China Merchants Group on a double-hull cruise ship, completing the painting of the first vessel; in July 2023, we completed the painting of a Zhenhua wind power vessel; and in May 2023, we collaborated with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding to complete the outer plate painting of China's first cruise ship. After years of on-site application and refinement, this technology has achieved widespread applicability. It is particularly suitable for the following scenarios:
  1. Complex painting patterns with high requirements for alignment and symmetry, and high requirements for the closure of the working area lines. For example: "Flying Ribbon".
  2. Large-scale painting and coating operations, such as: patterns covering "main hull 320m, painting area 1200㎡".
  3. Tight shipbuilding dock periods with clear process requirements for operational efficiency. For example: only one week is allocated for painting completion.

I. Technical Overview
Using 3D optical positioning technology, integrating high-precision photogrammetry and laser projection technology, it can project 3D graphics onto the surface of the ship's outer plate in real-time, realizing painting construction. This technology is highly accurate and fast, and can replace traditional two-dimensional sticker layout.
The work content is divided into two parts: indoor and outdoor.

II. Operation Steps
  1. 3D Pattern Reconstruction

  2. Positioning Measurement Operation

  3. 3D Projection Operation

  4. Fine-tuning and Correction Operation

  5. Painting Operation

III. Application Fields
In addition to painting and coating, this technology can also be used to guide welding, installation, and assembly work, and is one of the key technologies for realizing digital sample boxes and naked-eye 3D.
  1. Multiple 3D projection lines are set up on the production line to guide assembly.

  2. Single-unit flexible application to achieve on-site hole opening and installation guidance positioning.
